Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de' Galilei (1564 –1642) was an Italian astronomer, physicist and engineer. Galileo has been called the "father" of observational astronomy, modern-era classical physics, the scientific method and modern science. He is usually credited with being the first to measure speed by considering the distance covered and the time it takes. Galileo defined speed as the distance covered per unit of time.
