John Napier (1550 –1617) was a Scottish landowner known as a mathematician, physicist, and astronomer. He is best known as the discoverer of logarithms. Logarithms were introduced as a means of simplifying calculations. They were rapidly adopted by navigators, scientists, engineers, surveyors and others to perform high-accuracy computations more easily.
